Sibling rivalries are a very unique thing, and it appears that remains true for car brands.
Porsche and Audi are both owned by Volkswagen, and both are also two of the top manufacturers in the FIA World Endurance Championship — or rather, they were two of the top manufacturers.
During its recent 18-year run in endurance racing, Audi has claimed 12 overall victories in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Since its return to the series in 2014, though, Porsche has beaten Audi to the top step of the podium. Considering it makes little sense to have two of its brands competing in such a high-cost category, VW chose to stick with the hot hand, forcing Audi to pull out of WEC ahead of the 2017 season.
There doesn’t appear to be any love lost between the sister-brands, however, as Porsche posted an emotional tribute to Audi’s LMP1 program on Thursday.
Anybody with siblings can probably relate to this video. You might constantly fight and try to one-up each other, but ultimately, they’re still family.
We just hope we don’t have to wait too long before we get to see the two VW marques battling again on the streets of Le Mans, France.
