Last week, just as Formula 1 silly season seemed to be winding down, Nico Rosberg made a decision that has massive implications for the 2017 season.

The German announced his retirement from F1 on Friday, less than one week after claiming his first world championship at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

While the 31-year-old is looking forward to spending time away from the sport, everybody within the sport is wondering who will slot in alongside Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes-AMG Petronas. Several names have been linked to the seat, but team boss Toto Wolff hasn’t given any indication as to which way Mercedes is leaning.

Here are four drivers we think could replace Rosberg for the 2017 F1 season.
